Broken Telephone
Voice recordings, rewired vintage rotary phones
dimensions variable
(2018)

Participants listened to a recording of a person recounting a dream. The listeners then become the narrator. The self-recording begins with a script, but as the new narrator recounts the plot of the dream from memory, inevitably new elements are added and some are lost.

Each phone plays the recordings on loop and a faint cacophonous whispering is heard in the gallery space, individual narrators are only fully intelligible when the receiver is held to the visitor's ear.
